"Roc Juneteenth Jazz"
Along with our run/walk, we are thrilled to have our second “Roc Juneteenth Jazz” event now Roc 6.19 Jazz from 1 to 8 pm Sunday, June 1st, at the Highland Bowl in Highland Park, Rochester, New York.
“Roc 6.19 5k and Jazz” will honor President Jimmy Cater in this year's poster. President Carter declared June to be Black Music Month, on June 7, 1979. The purpose is to honor and celebrate the contributions of African American music and its influence on our nation. He was inspired by Kenny Gamble who created the Black Music Association to promote the Black music industry. We will host the 2nd annual Roc 6.19 Jazz event on Sunday June 1, 2024 1- 8pm. Donations are requested to benefit two 501 3c organizations; the Black Community Focus Fund in support of the construction of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park and Agape Haven of Abundance, which provides children (in the most disadvantagd zipcode) with a safe, nurturing environment with before and after school and during school recesses with fun experiential educational programing. You may use the QR codes to donate and learn more about these two local community organizations.
The event is free, but you need a ticket. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.

We continue to commemorate over 400 years of perseverance, from 1619 to the present. Roc Juneteenth supports the work for equal justice through our dedicating this event to Ahmaud Arbery, a Black 25-year-old man who was pursued without cause, then fatally shot in Glynn County, Georgia on February 23, 2020, by three white men. We use the #irunwithmaud to demonstrate our support for the justice that was served in December of 2021, for Ahmaud.
Juneteenth is the celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger led 2,000 Union soldiers to Galveston, Texas, to ensure the freedom of 250,000 still-enslaved people. Today, Rochester, NY, home to Frederick Douglass, is the perfect place to host a Juneteenth run/walk! Visit www.juneteenth.com for additional information.
