We continue to commemorate over 400 years of Perserverance 1619- present. ROC Juneteenth supports the work for equal justice through our dedication with our Run/Walk for Ahmaud Arbrey. Ahmaud, a black 25 year old young man who was pursued without cause and fatally shot in Glen County, Georgia on February 23, 2020 by 3 white men. We use this #irunwithmaud to demonstrate our support for justice for Ahmaud Aubrey.
Juneteenth, the celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States on June 19th, 1865. General Gordon Granger led 2,000 Union soldiers to Galveston, Texas to ensure the freedom of 250,000 still enslaved persons. Rochester, NY home to Frederick Douglass, is the perfect place to host a Juneteenth Run/Walk! Visit www.juneteenth.com for additional information.

AGE GROUPS & AWARDS
For the live 5K race, special gifts will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall male and female 5K finishers and ALL participants (Virtual and Live) and donors will be emailed a special commemorative poster, recognizing civil rights activist Claudette Colvin, designed by local artist Amber Stokes. Claudette Colvin, a Black 15 year old who refused to give up her seat on a bus in Alabama, during Jim Crow South. This occurred 9 months before Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to a white person. Claudette was under-recognized for her brave and courageous efforts to change the segregation laws through her arrest. She insisted, as she was dragged of the bus by policemen "it's my constitutional right!". Claudette once said "I knew then and I know now that, when it comes to justice, there is no easy way to get it. You can't sugarcoat it. You have to take a stand and say, 'This is not right.'" These words continue to be true today.
We will be sending Ms. Colvin a framed poster from Amber and the ROC Juneteenth Team.
