Roc 6.19 Jazz
Along with our run/walk, we are thrilled to share our second Roc Juneteenth Jazz event, now "Roc 6.19 Jazz," on Sunday, June 1. Details to be determined, so stay tuned.

“Roc 6.19 5k and Jazz” will honor President Jimmy Carter in this year's poster. On June 7, 1979, President Carter declared June to be Black Music Month. The purpose was to honor and celebrate the contributions of African American music and its influence on our nation. Carter
was inspired by Kenny Gamble, who created the Black Music Association to promote the Black music industry.

Please take a look at the highlights from last year's event in the link below.
Our performers were: Herb Smith & The Freedom Trio, Chelse Chambers, Eric Heveron-Smith & The Swordfish Trio, Jimmie Highsmith Jr., Serena Young, and,  headlining the event, was Ryan Johnson & The ROC City AllStars.  Enjoy the link of highlights below!

Donations are requested to benefit two 501c3 organizations: the Black Community Focus Fund in support of the construction of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park and Agape Haven of Abundance, which provides children (in the most disadvantaged zip code) with a safe, nurturing environment with before and after school programing, as well as programing during school recesses. All programing is filled with fun, experiential, and educational experiences.

Run or walk 19 miles or 19K (11.8 miles) in 6 consecutive hours or less or within 6 weeks or within 6 months!
Honoring the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, was a part of a wider women's rights movement. In 1919 it was ratified and in 1920 adopted. However, it did not include non-white women. This led to the work by Alice Paul on the Equal Rights Amendment. In the words of Harriet Tubman....keep going! And...We will keep going!

Register for virtual, and start your event from anywhere in the world! We would love to see people from all over the globe participate!
Make it your own event by running or walking your favorite route. It can be the city streets of NY or rural country roads in Florida or, how about the mountain trails in Colorado? Just get up and go! Register with your family and friends, and bring your dog or cat!

We continue to commemorate over 400 years of perseverance, from 1619 to the present. Roc Juneteenth supports the work for equal justice through our dedicating this event to Ahmaud Aubrey, a Black 25-year-old man who was pursued without cause by three white men, then fatally shot 5 years ago, in Glynn County, Georgia on February 23, 2020. We use the #irunwithmaud to demonstrate our support for the justice that was served in December of 2021, for Ahmaud.

Juneteenth is the celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger led 2,000 Union soldiers to Galveston, Texas, to ensure the freedom of 250,000 still-enslaved people. Today, Rochester, NY, home to Frederick Douglass, is the perfect place to host the original Juneteenth run/walk! Visit www.juneteenth.com for additional information.
